House of Stairs
According to Rem Koolhaas a living space consists
of several elements of architecture. Ranking a
particular element, like stairs, highest in the
hierarchy results in an unexpected outcome.
Instead of becoming the ultimate disciplinary
method, it transforms into a way of thinking about
functions that a house provides. With this
approach the stairs become the floor, shaping the
living environment. This dismisses the idea, that
we are to rely on a set template of elements when
designing living spaces.
